In 1852 he owned three crus: Cos d'Estournel Cos Labory and Pomys. From the 1830s he built one of the most extraordinary cellars in the M・・doc surmounted by Chinese pagodas and equipped with a carved door specially from India.
The Marquis was indeed a great connoisseur of the East with which he traded. He had discovered in particular the benefit that his precious bottles could derive from a round trip by sea from India bottles then known as "Return from India".
